This is the Roman Basilica of San Salvatore in Lauro - the Rome parish for people from the region of Marche, in Italy.
Today this parish is one of the most active and alive parishes in all of Rome. In the region of Marche is located the little town of Loreto, where the holy house of the Virgin Mary from Nazareth is located.
Each year on the 10th of December they celebrate the Solemnity of the Translation of the Holy House of Loreto (La Solemnita' della Traslazione della Santa Casa di Loreto).
All these magnificent candles were displayed and lit for the wonderful celebration.

Has there been any development of the Church's attitude to the transference of the holy house as a phenomenon? Has the fabric of the house been carbon dated?

The Holy House was physically transferred by boat by the De Angelis family if I am not mistaken hence the legend of it being miraculously carried by angels. I have been there and have seen it. Beautiful! The blocks from which it is made is clearly of Nazareth and the size is exactly the same from the place from where it was taken. I'll send John a photo or two. Best, don Jeffry
